This Sunday is the much anticipated 'Vintage and Handmade Fair' http://http//www.vintageandhandmade.co.uk/ in Chipping Sodbury from 10am. It is always a wonderful fair and the organisers Michele and Jayne really pull out all the stops. This time the fair is larger with even more stalls selling things to easily tempt the pennies from your purses! so even if the weather is cold and blustery you can be sure of hot tea, yummy cakes and original, beautiful christmas presents. I personally owe an awful lot to the organisers of this fair. It all started when I found a postcard advertising the first V and H and went along to see what was on offer. While there I met the lovely Nicky http://http//thevintagemagpie.typepad.com/ and got chatting about the world of blogging (something I had never heard of before!) and went home inspired to start my own and hoping that I may be able to have a stall at the next fair with my millinery. Without the V and H I wouldn't have started my blog, wouldn't be part of the V and H fairs and most likely wouldn't have got together with Liz and organised 'The Vintage Bazaar' so I am hugely grateful to those lovely ladies! It is because of this that I feel very strongly when other individuals take the fair name they developed. Liz and I had an arduous task coming up with a name that would create the right feel for our 'Bazaar' and were very aware about copying ones which were already out there. It is such a shame therefore that others feel less creative about their naming skills, especially as we all seem to be a rather nice bunch of people, well most of us!..........moan over!
Hope to see you all at 'The Original Vintage and Handmade Fair'......snow or no snow!
oh lord... the snow !!! hopefully see you there, really looking forward to it xx
ReplyDeleteHi Clare
ReplyDeleteMug packed! Will be lovely to catch up with everyone. Drive carefully!
Completely agree re naming of fairs. So many are using Michele and Jayne's wording which I find quite inexcusable - to the extent that I've apparently alienated myself in some quarters! Heyho ... you know me ... speak out, possibly think later (but probably not!!!) xx
Aww! What a lovely sentiment Clare! The fab stallholders like yourself are all part of the success of the V&H Fairs.
ReplyDeleteIt is a shame that others are jumping on the bandwagon so to speak & can't be original themselves.
Looking forward to seeing you again on Sunday!
Jayne
Clare.. you have actually brought a lump to my throat. Those are such kind words and most appreciated. Little did Jayne and I know when we first sat in my kitchen and mapped out the first fair in Rangeworthy .. what a success the fairs would become and how many lovely friends and folk we would meet along the way. I feel like we are part of a family and so am fiercely protective of our clan. There are a a few who insist on using our Vintage & Handmade handle which is very irritating and totally unnecessary. If we had called it the Vintage Tat show.. would they have followed suit? Surely there are so many other names they could have come up with .. which can only make me think that they want to ride on the back of our success. Beware of cheap imitations!
ReplyDeleteI shall climb off my soap box now and really look forward to seeing you on Sunday.. Have a safe journey.
Love
Michele xx
Hi Girls, good to hear that we feel the same about this! Thank you to Jayne and Michele for starting the WONDERFUL and ORIGINAL V&HM, I was there at the very first one & it only feels like yesterday.. help, where did 2 years go??? xx
ReplyDeleteAs Jayne said.. it wouldn't be wonderful without our very professional and talented ladies.. so it's hats off to you and Clare and all the other lovely folk who have supported us for the last two years.
